the throw pillow

Our family room is finally coming together - we added a wall between our entry way and the family room to create a space for the sectional and now we need some throw pillows to really make it ours. I've been researching a few options at my favorite purveyors and local DC boutiques - Room and Board, Salt and Sundry, Verishop, Jenni Kayne, Lulu and Georgia, Anthropologie, Target, and Crate and Barrel to find the very best in throw pillow design. Of course I've overwhelmed myself and now I can't decide.

The velvet pillow is having a moment and I find it adds beautiful texture and color to a room. Since we'd decided to veer more toward neutrals, I'm feeling we need some pops of color through accent pieces. I find myself leaning toward the Eucalyptus color. Also these are seriously on sale right now. West Elm, $44.80.

Anthropologie carries a variety of unique pillow designs that can add a certain vibe to any room. This lumbar pillow could be draped across a neutral bedspread to add some texture and a bit of a Moroccan feel, without being too contrived. Anthropologie, $128.

The color-blocking trend is big right now and so is this rust color. I could see this pillow on a lounge chair in an office or reading nook. There's several color options and lots more to choose from in the throw pillow sectio of Target. Target, $22.

I am a sucker for boucle and Hawkins NY, which seems to be just about everywhere these days, has so many great pillows to choose from. Many of the stores we frequented in Palm Springs carried beautiful, simple homewares in subdued colors form Hawkins NY and I wanted all of it. This boucle pillow adds texture and style to any room. Food52, $150.

These Lulu and Georgia pillows scream "desert chic," my wedding theme, so naturally I was drawn to the washed out linen look and blush and charcoal colors. Many colors and sizes. Lulu and Georgia, $89.

I couldn't leave out the high quality pillows from Jenni Kayne, the ultimate California casual designer. This pillow would be perfect on a window seat, cozy chair, or love seat with a cup of chamomile tea. Jenni Kayne, $145.
