the search continues

Well we did it. We put in our first offer. After four months of searching, we finally found a mid century home in a mid century neighborhood that checked all the boxes. Great community, lots of outdoor space, even a friend across the street. Sadly, our offer wasn't accepted, actually I think we were pretty far off. But I'm proud of our first attempt and excited about future homes coming on the market this spring. The house we loved was in Holmes Run Acres. I shared a few photos on Instagram this weekend but here's the full tour of the 4 bed, 2 bath MCM in Falls Church, VA:

Beautiful windows and light exposure. This home was designed in 1954 by architects, Nicholas Satterlee, Francis Donald Lethbridge, and Chloethiel Woodward Smith.

Amazing beams, such a vibe in the living room.

Living and dining area.

The Nelson light!

This home had some lovely MCM pieces.

Another great piece in a guest bedroom.

Screened-in porch.

Master bath.

Obsessed with this original screen door.

The size of the backyard really sold us because that's something you can't change about the house. We thought we would do an addition to the house to expand the kitchen and dining room but a backyard remains a backyard. Many of the homes we've considered have had very small yards or no yard at all!

Love the numbers.

Farewell lovely home...

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
