summer reflections

The calendar tells me that fall is just around the corner, though you wouldn't know that from the 91 degree days we are battling in the DMV. Humidity has decreased maybe slightly but I still dread weeding in the garden or sitting in grass anywhere - the mosquitos! All that being said, we've had a lovely summer with family and friends, hosting at the house, and the completion of a few house projects. Favorite moments captured...

We hosted many times this summer and it's always such a treat. I've been experimenting with our glass and dish ware we received from the registry, c/o Heath Ceramics.

We've hosted many dog play dates at our house, since the arrival of Linus, our Brittany Spaniel puppy.

Snack plates featuring the season's best fruits and I've started making fresh gluten free bread at home.

The latest bedside table arrangement.

I finished three water color paintings a few months ago and finally framed and hung them above my dresser.

Latest coffee table set-up.

Linus has made a splash at our home and we've removed all of our rugs until further notice.

We installed a six foot fence and completed the lower deck. More details coming soon but we plan to stain both to match, something like this, add landscaping around fence, and style the deck with lounge furniture, a fire pit and a pizza oven.

My favorite MCM in my parent's neighborhood in Portland.

I hosted a bridal luncheon in Portland for my best friend. We went for a French country theme, which worked well in my mom's Provence-inspired backyard.

Fresh Tartine bread made by my dad.

We have a funky nook in one corner of our living room that spans 43 inches wide. Most desks are 48 or 60 inches. We found the Oxford desk, which is 42 inches, at Creative Classics in Alexandria, VA and are considering making the purchase along with a new desk chair. We're still noodling...

Dog parties all day. Linus flew to Portland and met Cooper, my family's Brittany Spaniel.

While in Portland, I went to a few open houses and found some swoon-worthy kitchens and neutral tones. This counter top is goals.

Love the use of space with this compact stove.

Celebrating my best friend at Amaterra Winery.

Our strawberries came to life!

An afternoon with stylish coupe glasses and delicious apps at my friend's Portland home.

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
