spring cleaning!

I'm finally sharing photos of our latest home updates. Huge thanks to my parents for busting their butts while in DC a month ago to help with many cosmetic changes and mini-projects. Luckily we balanced their visit with really good meals at two my favorite restaurants, Chloe and Red Hen. We also did some gardening and added a little color to our drab patio and deck with orange and purple pansies. I also have some seedlings on my kitchen counter, which we hope to transfer to our first outdoor vegetable and herb garden this spring.

FAMILY ROOM

We are almost there (shades will hopefully be installed next week, as well as a floating console below the television). This room is by far our biggest transformation - it was originally an awkwardly sized dining room that was not being used effectively. We now spend 90% of our time in here and having the room just off the kitchen makes so much sense. All products linked!

PRIMARY BEDROOM

The bedroom was another space that just needed a little oomph to come together. We bought their fun boucle pillows, art from Target, and installed sconces on either side of the bed for nightly reading.

Bed Blanket - Peacock Lane

Nightstands - West Elm

LIVING ROOM / DINING ROOM

The living room / dining room area is a large shared space and we wanted to create more definition between the two rooms by adding rugs and pendant lights. I love how the pendant lights bring a dramatic feel to the dining room. We bought new chairs, which was a very long decision process, and I'm so glad we chose these. We swapped out the rug in the living room and moved it under the dining table and then found a rug at Home Goods ($300!) that works really well with the couch and swivel chairs.

GUEST BEDROOMS

We finally hung the floating nightstands in the smaller of the two guest rooms and finished the beds for now. I love the headboards in both of these rooms and need just a few more pieces to bring it together (shades!)

Bed Blanket - Peacock Lane

HALLWAYS

The entryway was a fun little project - we added a small console table and lamp to the end of the hall, which makes it feel more homey. Downstairs our hallway connecting the primary bedroom to the office was bare so we added a sconce and runner.

Mirror - Target

Sconce - West Elm

Runner - West Elm

Those are the updates! We plan on taking a pause on home renovation work once we do the powder room because we are planning for a new puppy and fence. We will get started again in the fall but of course will share updates from the bathroom in the next month!

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
