Mid-century recognition

I was thrilled to see the Washingtonian's article on mid-century modern homes in Washington DC and the consistent issue with developers tearing them down. This is a problem in Holmes Run Acres as well and while I am all for people renovating their houses and doing what they want, this really changes the look and historic value of neighborhoods like ours. The article also opened my eyes to the number of MCMs in DC proper, specifically the palisades neighborhood and Brookland. Definitely worth a read!

Owning a mid-century home is truly a labor of love as we are learning through our current renovations. Making the home our own is both a tiring and costly endeavor but one that makes me love the home even more. This past week we began our mini-renovation to the upstairs family room and downstairs master bedroom. We are adding a closet to what used to be a downstairs family room to create a large suite for ourselves on the bottom floor. The house will go from a three-bedroom to a four-bedroom and provide us more space for our king bed and our clothes, which are currently distributed throughout the home. The next step is carpet installation in the upstairs family room and downstairs bedrooms, which will really enhance the look, and then final painting. After that, we are going to take a break and save some money for our honeymoon.

The dining room is feeling more put together with these new candles and candle holders from The Shops at Thirteen Forty Five in Palm Springs. Palm Springs update coming next....

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
