MCM kitchens

I've been thinking a lot about midcentury modern kitchens this week, especially as we consider putting an offer in on a home in Holmes Run Acres that has a kind of "partially" completed kitchen. If we ended up in this house, I would ideally gut the kitchen and knock out the wall separating it from the living area to make it more open. This would also include new cabinetry and sleek appliances. Has anyone seen the new Bespoke Samsung refrigerators? They are not for sale in the US yet and I'm not sure they are "us" but I love the idea of one of these in an updated MCM kitchen.

Since we can't afford to do this all right away, I'm thinking about ways to update the kitchen in pieces - new backsplash, new fridge, etc. so I have been perusing many MCM kitchen updates lately and am sharing a few of my favorites for inspiration. That blue backsplash and walnut cabinetry is really speaking to me.

It's often easy to be influenced by all the beautiful updated MCM kitchens but there's such fun ideas in the original 1950s and 60s kitchens. The older style is typically not in line with modern day preferences and conveniences but I think it's worth keeping those in mind!

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
