mcm home tours

Do you ever find yourself going down a YouTube black hole on home tours? It's certainly one of my guilty pleasures. I selected my recent favorite tours that have such great tips for those of us currently making decisions about our homes. I especially love Jess' budget-friendly recommendations for hardware, closet installations, and cabinetry.

Jess Rose, a stylish Brit share her gorgeous London row home remodel and love for mid-century design. Her YouTube page provides a deep dive on each room and she links every product. I appreciate that it's not over the top and realistic for us pleebs and am so inspired by her effective use of space.

The Local Project is part home tour, part meditation site and videos. Their ability to capture the serenity of mid-century modern homes and stay true to long-standing architectural principals is admirable. I also love the use of neutrals and texture in most of the homes they choose to profile. While these homes are typically outside of the realm of possibility -- so minimalist - where is all their stuff? Or perched on cliffs in Sydney, Australia, I still find myself noting color palettes and art for ideas.

My obsession with Lauren Engel's photography and ability to capture the magic of mid-century modern residences in the Los Angeles area is no secret. I am especially partial to this swanky home in the Hollywood Hills, which we get to enter via drone.

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
