dining room vibes
When we bought our house, the dining room was my biggest concern. The prior owners added onto the home about twenty years ago and they added a great room at the entrance of the house with floor to ceiling windows and gorgeous beams. Unfortunately, they chose to forego wood floors and install carpet. Hence, we have carpet in the dining room. Luckily, the wood floors are the major undertaking and the rest of the dining room is cosmetic. We have a contractor coming in tomorrow to give us a quote on the floors, so we're hoping to get this fixed up immediately.
Once the wood floors are installed, we plan to design the room in a simple, structured way to encourage flow to and from the kitchen and provide a warm atmosphere for family meals. We purchased an Ikea dining table from Craigslist for $250, which will work for now until we upgrade to something more mid-century.
Our inspiration for this room is depicted in my mood board:
In the next six months, we will:
Paint the walls a warm cream color from Benjamin Moore
Partner with The Shade Store to measure and design custom grass cloth roller shades for each window
Install a Nelson-style cloud light
Bring the room together with a 9x12 area rug
Incorporate six Salt chairs from Serena and Lily
In the next year, we will:
Add a buffet/credenza
Buy a large piece of art to hang above the buffet
Add a large plant and planter at one one corner of the room
Explore options for additional seating as the room is massive
Items can be found at:
Serena and Lily Tucker Chair - $158 (on sale now!)
West Elm Cloud Pendant - $399
Bloomscape Fiddle Leaf Plant - $249
That's the tentative plan... stay tuned. Share your mid-century dining room inspiration with us!
