Cook architecture

As I become more familiar with mid-centuries in the DMV and acknowledge the state of the market (houses we would have bought a year ago have increased in price by about 3% and inventory is low), I have decided we may need to get creative to secure the ideal home. I read several articles in the Washington Post published over the last few years highlighting architects that purchase mid-centuries, restore the homes, and sell them. Two architects who are continually mentioned: Michael and Lawrence Cook of Cook Architecture. Michael and Lawrence have restored some of the most iconic homes in Virginia and Maryland and I literally drool over their website once a day. I decided it couldn't hurt to reach out to the firm and ask if they are currently working on any homes that might be coming up for sale. Lo and behold, they are restoring two homes in the Silver Spring, MD area. They immediately offered to walk us through the construction sites next week and I could not be more excited. Our realtor will join us too and I'll of course share the details here.

Here's a little eye candy to of their recent work...

The most dreamy light and enchanting staircases, that's the kind of midcentury I aspire to.

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
