A midcentury modern entrance

Mid-century modern doors are often the most noticed "statements" for the exterior of an MCM home. A ranch can suddenly be transformed into an MCM (from the outside) with a colorful MCM door. We don't dislike our front door but the bright blue and raised vintage glass doesn't fit the overall look we are aiming for, which is woodsy, modern, elevated treehouse escape.

Last week I was in Portland, Oregon visiting my parents and was inspired by some gorgeous, woody modern doors.

Modern Woodsy Escape

This door fits our overall aesthetic and comes in the dark (above) and lighter wood. I love the slats but also that it provides more privacy than our current door.

Hollywood Entrance

1stDibs has so many gorgeous starburst doors, something you often see in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. This would not fit our style but I absolutely love the look for a sunny getaway home.

Modern Simple

The dark teal is gorgeous on this home and fits the mid-century modern look for today's aesthetics. I could see us doing something similar, though in a wood finish. You could install this door on any contemporary, ranch or mid-century home, it's versatile.

Millennial Pink

Millennial pink is here to stay, my friends. I love this statement door from a feature in The Design Files, which I highly recommend reading for inspiration.

Zen-Inspired

The slats on this front door were made specifically for this home and create such a vibe. I'm curious if something like this would work in our home.

What are you favorite MCM doors - and colors? Would you go for something bright and eye-catching or more woodsy?

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
