a mid-century holiday

I say this nearly every year but I can't believe the holidays are behind us and we are stepping into a new year. This year was especially special and challenging with a new home (!!), COVID ups and downs, plenty of time in Portland with family, celebrating friend's engagements and babies, and planning a 2022 wedding. We've also made significant progress with the house, which I look forward to sharing soon - a few sneak peaks below. Neutrals forever.

I started water color painting this winter and this hobby has taken on a life of its own. I painted our name tags for Christmas dinner and plan to do several abstract paintings for the house.

My starter kit recommendations for your water coloring adventure can be found at the end of this post.

I found a new bar in DC with major mid-century vibes, Jane Jane. It was packed before the holidays but my friend and I snagged a table outside next to a heater. The martini is a must-order.

I found a phenomenal young artist at Made in DC in Georgetown and am considering some of her work for our home.

Hosting for a holiday dinner! It was such a joy to buy a tree this year, decorate and get the house ready for the holidays. Thank you, Merrifield Garden Center, for a healthy tree that is still thriving today.

Portland! We spent a wonderful two weeks in Portland with my family. My brother and his girlfriend moved into a new place this summer and I was feeling their fireplace set up and nutcracker collection.

We always do a Christmas day brunch spread and this year was no different.

Door inspo! I went on many runs around my parents neighborhood with an eye for colorful and well decorated doors. These were a few of my favorties.

Love this style of door.

A real MCM vibe.

Our Brittany Spaniel ornament.

Matching pajamas on Christmas Eve.

A white Christmas! Happy New Year!!

Welcome to my midcentury musings...

I'm Madeline, a Northern Virginia resident settling into a midcentury hideaway in the suburbs. I love low-fi music, Negronis, and firing up the record player on Friday nights.
